Back To School….

It’s that time of year already…..

Endless supply lists, the “I must have that shirt or I’ll die” moments, and lest we forget the dreaded alarm clock that is now buried under a mountain of summer dust.

Here are some fun retro back to school ads that I just couldn’t resist sharing!

Back to School 7

How about a healthy pack of smokes to start your school year off right?  YIKES!  Nothing says RAH RAH RAH, like the football captain and his cheerleading gal coughing up a lung at half time.

I’m sorry….If Jimmy loves congealed meat more than Mary, then Jimmy is going to grow up to be one of those “scholarly” dudes that wears a bright yellow vest and picks up trash on the side of the road with a stick. Honestly Mary, you can do so much better!

Back to School 12

I can only image that these kids got beat up for showing up on the first day of school wearing matching mom jeans.    “Hello world, here’s a song that we’re singin’. Come On, Get Happy!”

Back to School 6

I ALWAYS wear my Peter Pan cap when making PB&J sandwiches, don’t you?  In all seriousness, if the kids came down to find me wearing this getup while making their lunches, they would have me committed….

Chubbies??!! Really??  Shame on you Lane Bryant.  The idiot that created this confidence boosting tag line is the reason spanks were invented.   You are evil and must be destroyed.

Back to School 14

aaahhhh, Woolworth’s, how I miss thee.   I would have been student of the year sportin’ that Rocket Pencil Case!!!

Happy Back to School!  I hope it’s a great year!!!!

Summer Pink!

What could be better than an ice cold glass of lemonade on a hot sunny summer day, you ask?

How about serving it up in a heavenly glass of frosted pink and gold trimmed butterflies!

Pink glass 4

I doubt the gents in 1970 would be sucking down their gin martini’s in these dainty beauties, but I can certainly imagine the monthly ladies luncheons serving a white wine spritzer or two (or three!).

Pink Glass 3

For me, lemonade works and I swear it tastes better in this glass!

Pink lemonade would have been more appropriate, but I had the hardest time finding pink lemons at the market today!

Enjoy the day!

Lobster Love

Is this dish fantastic or what!

The hubby and I hit a county fair antique show this weekend and I just couldn’t bear to leave without this!

hmmm…..what to serve in it……

Baked Stuffed Lobters
Baked Stuffed Lobster

Doesn’t “Baked Stuffed Lobsters” sound fabulous! One really can’t go wrong when Butter, Cream and Parmesan Cheese are involved!

Brought to us by the 1961 McCall’s Cook Book. Ah, 1961, where gals wore Saddle Oxford’s, mom watched the Dick Van Dyke Show, and dad could fill up the Belair for only 25¢ a gallon. **sigh**

Pinch Me…..I think I’m in Love!!

Christmas in July

It’s Hot!   We’re setting off fireworks!   We’re eating watermelon!.  We’re swimming and sunbathing!   And some of us crazy crafters are starting our Christmas projects.

My husband’s grandmother had a Christmas Tree full of hand-made Bucilla felt ornaments.  Every time they are placed on the tree, they bring back memories of his grandmother and how awesomely crafty she was.  I LOVE them and just had to have some of my own.  Of course, my craftiness is nowhere near his grandmother’s, but I’m keeping my own.

So I started my collection with Bucilla’s “Cinderella”.   What could be better?

Ornaments 3

How we learned to do things before YouTube!  I was actually scared when I pulled this out.

Ornaments 1

Not too bad….still working on the Prince.  “Someday my Prince will be done….”

Happy Christmas in July!

Pyrex Passion….

Is there anything better than vintage Pyrex dishes?

Pyrex 1

You can bake with them.  Mix chocolate chip cookies in them.   And potato salads….forget about it.  YUMMO!

My mother-in-law bakes home made mac-N-cheese in her Pyrex….which is when Pyrex and I fell in love.  If any of her dishes go missing, I’m pleading the 5th!

Pyrex 2

Don’t these remind you of grandma’s German potato salad?

Pyrex = Love
